Workout of the Week: The Scientific 7-Minute Workout

Skimble’s Workout of the WeekThe Scientific 7-Minute Workout, is based on the May-June issue of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Journal! We were inspired with their quick high intensity workout as it delivers the exercise benefits you would expect from a long run & gym session! This HIIT workout includes body weight exercises, plus a few that utilize a sturdy chair, bench, and wall. Do those moves at max effort/intensity for a period of 30 seconds, then rest and transition onto the next exercise. The human body is the best work of art AND science! Move what mother nature gave you :-)

Workout of the Week: Lucky Leggy Lower

The weather’s getting warmer, which means there will soon be plenty of great reasons to show off those leggy stems! Get ready for hot days by doing this lower body firming workout. For this workout, we only picked bodyweight moves from Skimble’s ever-growing roster of exercises to help you get leaner, stronger legs…plus a perkier backside ;-) Luckily, you can easily do this at home or the gym so there are no excuses!

Skimble Member Spotlight: Michael Miosi

This week we’d like to introduce you to Michael Miosi, our Skimble Member Spotlight! Michael and his family have been with Skimble since 2011 and he tried several other workout options before finding success with Workout Trainer.  As a Camp Director at a youth camp he was tired of “huffing it across camp” and decided to take the necessary steps to improve his health and well-being.  Check out his story here:

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

About 2 years ago, I stepped on the scale in doctor’s office at 200 lbs, which was the most I’ve ever weighed in my life! I now weigh a little under 165, and I feel great!

What your next fitness goal?

I recently completed a 60 mile trail in 3 days with a friend. I want to complete the same trail with my 13 year old son (in 5 days or less). I also want to break 19 minutes in a 5K.

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

Most of my “fitness icons” are ordinary people, like many folks in the Skimble community. One of my mentors particularly inspires me because he is 69 years old, ripped and could probably out-bench many of the younger guys at the gym any day!

Describe your favorite way of staying fit outdoors.

I love trail running, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. I also love “backyard” sports with my kids!

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble? 

I love that Skimble has something for everybody (In fact, my wife, son and one daughter all use it!). I have greatly enjoyed creating workouts as well as the accountability and inspiration offered through followers and forums!

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

“Fit to serve.”

Skimble Member Spotlight: Annie Tassie

We’d like to introduce you to Annie Tassie, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Annie has been an avid Skimbler, creating over 60 workouts in her pursuit to lose baby weight and gain strength.  Check out her amazing transformation — it’s inspiring us to get out and have some fun in the sun!

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

For a while I was “skinny fat.” Size zero, but nothing but a bag of fat and bones. I started with Skimble when I had a baby and gained over 50 pounds.  I lost all the pregnancy weight in 7 months (down to 115) and now I’m building muscle. I’ve built up to 130 lb so far and I’m pretty happy here. Workin’ on the 6 pack now!

Who is your fitness icon and why?

Jillian Michaels. She earned every bit of her body through hard work, not the luck of the genetic pool.

What is your favorite way of staying fit outdoors?

Hiking with my family. I’m lucky to be in Hawaii with lots of beautiful hikes!

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

Skimble has made this all possible for me! I create my own workouts everyday. I have used Skimble while travelling and made hotel room workouts too. I’ve got my hubby and friends involved now! I’d be lost without Skimble!

What’s a random fact about you?

I play the bass guitar and shoot guns. A rockstar redneck?

What is your fitness mantra/motto?

No matter how chaotic life gets, the one thing I can control is my body. Fitness is my zen.

Workout of the Week: Extended Strength

Build some muscular endurance and feel great. For weight loss, research has found that lifting weights helps you lose fat. Enjoy this strength training routine to shed any lingering fat and replace it with strong, lean muscle!
