Gear and discounts and RSS feeds, oh my!

by Skimble

Hey Skimblers! Do you check your email/Facebook/Twitter account compulsively? (We take it as a given that you live and die by skimble.com). Add this to your must-look-at-every-five-minutes list of websites: Steep and Cheap, an extension of Backcountry.  They offer, as the name suggests, steep discounts on outdoor gear, just as it's about to disappear. The deals refresh every few hours, so if you're looking for a really good price, we suggest that you follow @SteepAndCheep on Twitter or get an RSS feed of it so you won't miss out on that half-off tent you've always wanted.

One more timely deal to share: REI is currently running a big promotion that gets you an extra 20% off one item in the REI Outlet.  Ends 6/17!

Saturday Outdoors with REI

by Skimble

What did you do this past Saturday?  We know a ton of you Bay Area residents were at the Union Street Festival having fun in the sun.

Skimblers like Gabrielle and Maria were working out in Marin at Tennesse Valley by volunteering with the REI community to celebrate National Trails Day.

Here are the ladies Gabrielle, Marine and Maria with the event organizer, Maria Durana.

Gabrielle had a great day working in the dirt, with this to say about the experience:

"An active and enlightening day in the great outdoors!  Thank you to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy team for organizing this and many other volunteer opportunities to green our environment."

Here's Maria "rocking out" with the president/founder of the American Hiking Society, Gregory A. Miller.

No matter what you did, we hope you all had a great weekend in the sun and didn't forget to Skimble!

We look forward to seeing you all next week at the Haight St. Festival.

Tomorrow is Bike to Work Day & I'll be riding!

by Skimble

You know what to do.  Put your butt on a bike and ride, ride to work!

San Franciscans, show your local San Francisco Bike Coalition support and stop by one of their 27 Energizer Stations.  The nice folks at REI will  be located at the station by Kearny and Washington in Chinatown from 5pm-7pm with a certified bike technician to make simple nut and bolt adjustments to your bike-for free!

Did you know? Biking is a universal form of transportation and exercise...of course you did!

From Silicon Valley's retro wheels at the Googleplex:

to the flashy fixies in urban NYC streets:

to modest ones seen along the Tibetan plateau:

show off your low carbon footprint by sharing your ride on Skimble.

Be active to win a $50 Gift Card from REI on @skimble

by Skimble

Be active to win big (in more ways than one)!  This month, Skimble will be giving away Skimble Action Packs including your choice of Skimble t-shirt and a $50 Gift Card from REI or MEC:

What do you have to do to get the goods?  Just be active with Skimble.  Each day in February that you track at least one activity on Skimble, you earn one contest entry.  At the end of the month, winners are randomly chosen from these entries.  That's pretty much it so get on it and be active!

---

Need some motivation?  Invite your friends and follow some people who got their 'action' on last month!  Congrats to the Skimble Leaders of January 2010:

  • Matt Y is an all arounder who likes running, biking, rock climbing, yoga, and gym fitness.
