Gooooooaaaaaaaal! Spain wins the World Cup
It was a long, ugly game, with almost as much yellow on the field as orange and blue. During the 120-minute World Cup championship, the referree gave out a record 14 yellow cards, dishing out two in the final minutes of play for poor conduct.
After missed opportunities by the Netherlands' Arjen Robben and Spain's Sergio Ramos sent the players back onto the field after 90 minutes of regulation play, it looked as though the match would be decided by penalty kicks.
However, in the last four minutes of overtime, Spain's Andres Iniesta scored the game's only goal to lead Spain to its first title.
Both teams will head back to their home countries in the early hours of the morning, but Spain will take with it the coveted World Cup.
Next stop, Brazil 2014!
