We at Skimble HQ managed to dodge some pretty good April Fool’s pranks today, but some of these fitness myths totally had us fooled! Check out these (and more) myths and find out if you would’ve been tricked or fitness savvy!
- I need to work out for at least an hour to have any kind of benefit
Nope! It is totally workout specific; Tabata training provides a great aerobic and anaerobic workout in only four minutes. So basically, it all depends on what you’re doing, how hard you’re doing it, and the way you’re doing it. No more excuses about not having enough time to get in a good workout!
- Lifting weights will make me look bulky
The smart folks at LiveStrong say “If you were to look at 1 pound of fat, and 1 pound of muscle side by side, you would notice how much smaller the muscle is even though it’s the same weight. Meaning, the more muscle you have on your body, the less space you will take up.”
- Doing lots of sit-ups will get me a six-pack
Trying to get those six-pack abs in time for the warmer weather coming up? Well we hate to break it to you but lots of sit-ups aren’t enough to get the toned mid-section that you desire. You need to attack the core with resistance, aerobic exercise, cardio, AND eating good foods, in order to get the abs you want.
- The Master Cleanse is healthy
As LiveStrong reiterates “Food is your friend,” and we believe it too. “Science has shown that the kidneys and liver are adequate to break down the body’s toxicity. Thinking that a combination of laxative tea, lemon, syrup, pepper and salt water will “detoxify” your body and create permanent weight loss is not only incorrect but ultimately can have the reverse affect.”
We hope that you haven’t fallen for these April Fool ‘pranks’ this year, and if you did at least you know the truth now!
