Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Bree Cunningham

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Bree Cunningham

Meet Bree Cunningham, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! After discovering her own passion for running, she now wants to help others gain confidence by giving them the tools to get in better shape. We recently had the chance to chat with Bree and learn about her journey from Texas to the Dominican Republic, and all of life’s great developments along the way.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Bree: I’m originally from Houston, Texas. Texas will always be home since I met my husband and had my two boys there. I started my fitness journey 20 years ago by watching workout VHS tapes in my bedroom (Billy Blanks Tai Bo, if you must know). I’ve been hooked on exercise ever since then and love doing a variety of different workouts. I’m a certified personal trainer with the NAFC. My passion is running, and I’ve competed in many races. My favorites races would be the Surfside Marathon (all on the beach), the BP MS150 (170 miles on a bike), the Xterra half marathon trail run, the ULTRA in Punta Cana, and the 5150 triathlon series. My favorite place to run is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where we lived for 5 years.

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Bree: Being in the passenger seat of somebody else’s journey is amazing. Helping someone walk their first 5k or accomplishing their first 30-second plank is indescribable. Watching struggle, pain, and tears turn into determination and joy is my inspiration.

What are your training specialties?

Bree: I’m a firm believer in functional fitness and being able to get a complete workout in with minimal or no equipment. My heart is definitely in running! I started walking about 12 years ago which slowly turned into running. I couldn’t stop if I tried!

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Bree: I think a long time ago I realized the mental benefits far outweigh the physical. If I’m having a bad day my husband asks me: “Do you need to go for a run?”. Obviously, I’m initially irritated, but I know he’s right…  Staying fit melts the stress away!

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Bree Cunningham

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Bree: Paaahaaa! Do I ever! Magnum milk chocolate ice cream, sour patch kids candy, and chocolate-covered peanuts. Let me mention one more time, ice cream! It deserves its own praise. Does it say something about me that this is the easiest question to answer? 🙂

Who are your heroes?

Bree: My athletic hero is Ballet dancer Misty Copeland, hands down. I am not, nor will I ever be a ballet dancer. However, I admire Misty because as an athlete she has immense power and strength. She can then convert that into elegance and beauty.

Do you have any hidden talents?

Bree: Yes, I have the ability to embarrass my sons while doing nothing. It’s a gift really. All moms have this ability wired in their DNA.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Bree Cunningham

What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Bree: I love the app and have been using it for years. While living in a third world country, you don’t have access to gyms, so Workout Trainer was a lifesaver. My favorite feature is the ability to create your own workouts with ease. It’s the best!

Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Bree: Good shoes and resistance bands. If you want to take on running, all you need is a great pair of shoes. That’s it! I love resistance bands because you can take them with you anywhere you go and they are so versatile.

Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Bree: Don’t think too much! The hardest door to get through is our own front door. Our biggest competition is our own mind. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Take the first step and then… rejoice in every single step that follows.

Thanks for sharing with us, Bree, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Brian Fallon

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Brian Fallon

Meet Brian Fallon, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! Recently retired from an entirely different career, his love for triathlons goes way back. We recently had the chance to chat with Brian and learn about his coaching business along with its guiding principals that focus on “Harmony through Balance” in all aspects of life.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Brian: I’m actually a retired New York Air Traffic Controller! I live in Northport, New York, which is like a triathlete’s playground!

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Brian: I got into triathlons about 20 years ago and was totally hooked after completing my first race. I became an ASCA Level 2 (American Swim Coach Association) and Ironman Certified Triathlon Coach a few years ago, and since I retired, I now coach swimming and triathlon training full time.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Brian Fallon

What are your training specialties?

Brian: Swimming, Biking and Running (obviously), and Strength Training to help prepare the body to sustain the loads that this kind of intense training and racing will impose, especially for the long course options (Half and Full Iron distance).

Tell us a bit about AquaTerra Coaching?

Brian: I started AquaTerra Coaching, LLC because I wanted to be an alternative to the “Gotta make it hurt!” mentality that I see a lot of people subjected to in their training. It ends up causing a lot of unnecessary injuries. Triathlon training is grueling enough as it is; there’s no magic in the formula for success – dedication, consistency, and realistic efforts proportional to the demands of the event for which you are training, will take you farther than you would believe. Our guiding principle of “Harmony through Balance” means that while we will always strive to help you achieve the best physical performance possible, we also attempt to reach that goal in a healthy and holistic manner that is in sync with not just your race-day goals, but your life goals as well.

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Brian: Seeing 80-year-olds compete! Seriously! To see people in that age group in action – and I mean SMASHING it – is unbelievably inspiring to me. I want to be like that when I grow up!

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Brian Fallon

Who are your heroes?

Brian: My heroes are names not well known, but in my opinion, should be household names. Rudy Garcia-Tolson, a gold medal Paralympian (2008 & 2012) who became the first double above-knee amputee to complete a full Ironman Triathlon. Mikey Brannigan, a Northport native who has autism, who went on to become the 2016 Paralympian gold medalist in the 1500 Meter run. And so many others like them!

Do you have any hidden talents?

Brian: I draw cartoons in my spare time.

What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Brian: I was searching for a timer app that I could use to program custom workouts and then send those to my athletes when I discovered Skimble’s Workout Trainer app. Brilliant! It had all the features I was looking for and more! I really love the playback feature which allows a demonstration of the exercises. Sometimes, you just need to see it being done in order to understand what to do yourself, or – as often is the case – what NOT to do! The audio cues also make it so easy to follow along without having to keep looking at the device.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Brian Fallon

Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Brian: Stretch cords! They are so amazingly effective when used correctly. You can bring them anywhere and get an incredible workout done.

Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Brian: You want to get stronger? Go to sleep. Seriously; the science on this is unequivocal. Workouts are where you “damage” your muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It’s during sleep – deep, restful sleep – that your body repairs, rebuilds, and strengthens everything in preparation for the next round. Make sleep a priority in your life.

Thanks for sharing with us, Brian, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and AquaTerra Coaching!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Lisa McNett

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Lisa McNettMeet Lisa McNett, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! Passionate about movement and helping others achieve their goals, she discovered a unique opportunity to shift her focus as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. We recently had the chance to chat with Lisa and learn about her mission to help her local Autism Non-Profit with tailored classes for kids.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Lisa: I grew up as a dancer in Clearwater, Florida. I was always surrounded by movement and loved every bit of it. I continued dancing up until my last semester in college at Michigan Technological University. I had always had a passion for dance and fitness but truly was catapulted into the fitness/wellness side of things when I started teaching Zumba Fitness in Gillette, Wyoming in 2007. This is where I started my journey!

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Lisa: My passion to help others achieve their goals is what truly inspired me. I love seeing people smile through a workout when I teach group fitness, especially when they come to me and say how much stronger or confident they feel as a result. That’s why I do what I do and why I continued to pursue other formats too.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Lisa McNettWhat are your training specialties?

Lisa: I am an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor with specialties in Zumba Fitness, Tabata Bootcamp/HIIT, BOSU, Barre, and soon Functional Training! I also started my own initiative back in 2012, called Kids Movement.

Can you tell us a bit more about Kids Movement?

Lisa: I have a 9-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum. When I took my first BOSU workshop, I immediately wanted to incorporate it into a class for kids on the spectrum. This is how Kids Movement developed, it is a class designed to hit all the senses and work on those motor skills with kids. I wanted it to be a safe space for these kids to come to have fun and work out. Though the class is not currently active, I work daily with my own son and I do a fundraising event every year for our local Autism Non-Profit (The Autism Council of Utah) which I am currently prepping for!

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Lisa McNettPC: Sylvia Maya Photography

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Lisa: My kids – I have very active boys and I want to be running around with them when I am 60+ years old. I feel so much better when I work out and move. My mental and physical health motivates me to keep moving even if it’s just a small walk. Every movement matters and I want to stay healthy for myself and my family.

Who are your heroes?

Lisa: My oldest sister is one of my biggest heroes. She has been my biggest cheerleader and also a mom of six (wow, right)! She works hard and stays focused.

What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Lisa: I love that you can choose exercises or workouts based on certain muscle groups you are wanting to work on, or specialty areas like climbing, for example. That is really awesome! I started rock climbing two and a half years ago; so I’m definitely checking those ones out.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Lisa McnettDo you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Lisa: I really love my Lululemon Pace Rival Capris. They have held up during so many visits to the climbing gym, regular workouts, hikes, and my daily busy life. They are so comfortable and don’t give me that “naked” feel at all when I wear them. Durable, wicking, and comfy!

Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Lisa: I am not sure if it’s a secret but never leave home without a water bottle filled with water. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day and also keep a healthy non-perishable snack with you in the event you need it!

Thanks for sharing with us, Lisa, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Elisabetta Bruno

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Elisabetta Bruno

Meet Elisabetta Bruno, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! This kettlebell queen is all about improving functional movement for herself and her clients. We recently had the chance to chat with Elisabetta and learn about her journey from being an active teen to a passive desk jockey, resulting in many health issues. A much-needed change of course helped her regain control of her own wellbeing and now she’s helping others do exactly that.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Elisabetta: I’ve lived in the UK for many years but I’m originally from Italy. Growing up, I was one of the more active girls, sometimes the only one in my physical education class who actually wanted to move, so I’d wind up playing sports with the guys! I started out with Judo, but then I discovered volleyball and I was hooked. Although volleyball was my favorite sport, on any given afternoon you could see me play football, basketball, or do exercise of some kind. Although I didn’t really like the latter that much, I even tried fencing!

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Elisabetta: Once I started working, I became a serious desk jockey. I ended up having some real issues with asthma and I put on a lot of weight. I had recurring crippling back pain. I could not even stand up, it was so bad… and I was hardly 30! You wouldn’t have looked at me and thought, “Oh yes, she loved sports as a teen.”

One day I decided to lose weight for real and I hired an online coach. Having that kind of accountability really helped me to stay motivated. And being me, I couldn’t just be told what to do, I had to learn more about things and understand what it takes to lose weight. I exercised and improved my eating habits. I started with bodyweight exercises.

I will admit – I really like videogames. So when I tried a virtual reality headset I totally fell in love with it. You can do a lot of physical activity with one of those. You wind up doing kickboxing (shadowboxing obviously) or wielding a bow and dodging incoming fire, or you get to be a samurai. Anyway, it reminded me of how much I liked to move so I started to do real sports again.

Before I knew it my asthma issues had gone and so did my back issues. I had lost 26 lb too! I wanted other people to experience the same health benefits I had, so I paired my love for physical activity and my never-ending quest for knowledge, got my certifications and became a trainer.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Elisabetta Bruno

What are your training specialties?

Elisabetta: I focus on healthy lifestyle and I have recently become a Girevik. “Girevik” is the Russian word for someone participating in Kettlebell Sport, also known as Girevoy Sport. This is a fairly new endeavor for me, but because I find I gravitate towards using kettlebells more than any other tool, becoming involved in the sport was a natural progression.

I will use other tools, and I know how to program someone using barbells, gym machines, and bodyweight of course. When I train with clients I focus on what they would like to do, the equipment they have and their skills. I then coach them accordingly. And regardless of their goal, whether it be weight loss, muscle gain or athletic performance, I always put their health first. I will always look for a sustainable way of doing things. No crash diets. No steroids. A huge emphasis on autoregulation and healthy habit building.

What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Elisabetta: I really like the social aspect of Workout Trainer, and how you can prop each other up. I have often seen a client finish a workout and other people just chimed in and cheered them on. It’s amazing. And it helps me as well, as I am not the only one trying to motivate my clients.

Who are your heroes?

Elisabetta: I wouldn’t say I have any heroes, but I do aspire to be as good as Brittany van Schravendijk in Kettlebell sport. She is definitely my inspiration. She is a Master of Sport (that’s the highest rank you can get) and holds several records.

For Yoga, Dean Pohlman and his ManFlowYoga are definitely the best for me. He focuses on Yoga for men, but his advice works for everyone, and he does have women clients (I should know, right?). I like him so much because of his practical application of Yoga and how he uses and shapes it to fit any situation, whether it’s injury prevention or athletic recovery. He is not going to just give you a Sun Salutation and then call it “Yoga for Athletes”.

Last but not least, Chris Peil. He is a strength and conditioning coach and physio, and he coaches a lot of Strongman competitors. What I like about his rehab style is that he takes into consideration your individual athletic context. He gets you back into training as soon as possible while respecting your body’s limitations. His articles on T-nation are perhaps a bit different from what you’ll usually find there as he focuses on what makes you strong in real like, rather than on a bench.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Elisabetta Bruno

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Elisabetta: I like to strive to get better and that motivates me. However, I have stopped relying on motivation to keep me going. Motivation gives people the spark, but like a spark, it is ephemeral. After that it’s a matter of keeping your eyes on the mountain, follow the path and being disciplined. I would say that Girevoy Sport is what is now driving me forward. It’s a sport you can grow with, and you can continually work towards setting personal bests and improve. I definitely don’t want to go back to being the person with the breathing issues who can’t even walk. Never again if I can help it.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Elisabetta: Chocolate. In moderation, of course!

What are your hidden talents?

Elisabetta: If I told you they wouldn’t be hidden now, would they? Alright, alright. I am being told I can sing. Apparently.

Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Elisabetta: Wolverson for kettlebells if you are in the UK (or comparable US models).

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Elisabetta Bruno

Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Elisabetta: Brace yourself because this is perhaps the biggest secret the fitness industry is trying to keep from you. Consistency. You have to be consistent. That’s it. Try to make healthier choices more often. Try to be consistent with these choices. And most of all build habits, one at a time if you have to. Forget shortcuts, special blend supplements and the like. If they work in the first place, they are not sustainable. You only need to make the good choices 50% of the time to become healthier.

Thanks for sharing with us, Elisabetta, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Janet Harritt

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Janet HarrittMeet Janet Harritt, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! Growing up as an active child, health and fitness have always been ingrained in her lifestyle. Janet believes that being healthy encompasses much more than just your physical health, which is why she focusses on helping her clients find joy in their fitness journey to stimulate their mental and emotional health too. We recently had the chance to chat with Janet and learn about her training methods as well as some of her best tips & tricks!

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Janet: I grew up in Memphis, TN where I was a competitive swimmer and cross country runner for most of my childhood. From there, I went on to pursue college swimming. I am now married to my amazing husband, and we have two children. I am a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, and Nutrition Specialist in South Carolina where I train clients and teach Barre, HIIT, and cycle classes.

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Janet: I’ve grown up around fitness through athletics, so health and fitness is something that is ingrained into my lifestyle. It is also something that has helped me deal with stress in a healthy way. I wanted to become a trainer because I believe being healthy goes far beyond fitness and nutrition, it encompasses mental and emotional health as well. My goal is to help clients not only be physically fit but emotionally fit as well. I want clients to find joy in their fitness journey, and be fulfilled in their accomplishments. When people feel good, it overflows into every aspect of their lives, and it is my passion and joy to help them get there.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Janet HarrittWhat are your training specialties?

Janet:

  • Helping prenatal women have a healthy pregnancy and postpartum women achieve their fitness goals after having a baby.
  • Helping athletes who are looking to train for certain events (triathlon, half/full marathon, tough mudder races, etc.).
  • Helping clients who are doing well in fitness, but need help/direction with nutrition and healthy eating habits.

What do you love about integrating Workout Trainer in your coaching?

Janet: I love that no matter what, you always have a great workout on hand. You can search for a specific type of workout and do it wherever you are, whether it’s in you’re living room, at the gym, or when you’re traveling.

Who are your heroes?

Janet: I am thankful for many people throughout my life, including the coaches I had growing up who supported and encouraged me, the fellow trainers who encouraged me to turn my passion into a career and helped me grow and learn as a trainer, and my family and friends who continue to support me along the way.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Janet HarrittWhat keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Janet: A healthy lifestyle is something that is important to me, and now that I have children, I am motivated to stay healthy for them. I also want to share health and wellness with them. I see it as a lifestyle and a way to treat our bodies with respect. If we take care of ourselves, we can take care of and help others in turn. I want to be a good mom to my kids, and for me, that means being a healthy mom!

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Janet: Dark chocolate, coffee shop lattes, massages, and pedicures.

What are your hidden talents?

Janet: Hmm… I won a hula hoop contest in the 7th grade! For real, I’m not sure if I have any “hidden” talents, but I love to cook all sorts of food. I enjoy running, so I try to train for either a half marathon or full marathon each year.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Janet HarrittDo you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Janet: I love mini loop bands to activate glutes when you’re working your lower body. I also like to incorporate gliders into fitness routines. Gliders can be used for legs, core, and arms so they are a great way to mix up your strength training.

Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Janet: I always ask my clients what they enjoy doing. I find this question very important when it comes to programming a fitness plan for them. Finding a fitness routine that you enjoy is key to sticking with your fitness goals. For example, I love to run. It makes me happy and it helps me feel like me. If you hate running, then why force yourself to jog every day? You won’t get very far in your fitness goals, and you probably won’t stick with it very long. But if you love yoga, find a good yoga routine or a trainer who will help you train in a similar format. You will enjoy exercising a lot more and find yourself sticking with it long term. If you’re not sure what you love or hate, try out a variety of workouts or talk with a trainer who can help you, so you can find out which ones you enjoy.

Thanks for sharing with us, Janet, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: James Faith

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: James FaithMeet James Faith, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! He is a US Army Veteran on a mission to help people improve their health, the same way he was inspired by fellow trainers throughout his own weight loss journey. We recently had the chance to chat with James and learn about how hard work and determination really are the key factors that lead to sustainable success.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

James: I grew up in Nebraska and I am an Army Veteran. I joined the day after the towers were hit, and never looked back. I did two combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

James: My own personal struggles in combination with some medication I was on after retiring from the Army made me balloon all the way up to 500 pounds. I had a doctor tell me that things wouldn’t end well for me if I did not make a change. Eventually, I fell in love with fitness and was inspired by trainers that helped me, so I wanted to pay it forward.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: James FaithWhat are your training specialties?

James:

  • MMA Conditioning
  • Kickboxing
  • Performance and Sports enhancement
  • Corrective Exercise
  • Bodybuilding
  • Obstacle Race Preparation

What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

James: The ability to edit a workout if need be, to scale it to one’s ability level.

Who are your heroes?

James: The Rock, and all the guys I served alongside overseas.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: James FaithWhat keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

James: My health for starters, and also knowing that I have goals I want to achieve and that my fitness is what will make that happen.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

James: Spongebob Squarepants.

What are your hidden talents?

James: I don’t really have any hidden talents, but I am pretty good at Archery.

Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: James FaithPlease share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

James: Nothing is really a secret. In my eyes, everything is cut and dry. Health, fitness, and weight loss is a not quick fix. You have to be able to sustain healthy behaviors and the next fad that you see on television will not work in the long term.

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Miguel Gisbert

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Miguel Gisbert

Meet Miguel Gisbert, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! He is an avid rock climber and Personal Trainer who splits his time between Spain and the UK. He speaks Spanish + English and loves to work with people from around the globe. We recently had the chance to chat with Miguel and learn about his passion for climbing, trail running, and the great outdoors!

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Miguel: I was born in the middle of the mountains in Spain, in a small town called Alcoi. I’ve lived in several other places over the past few years, like Alicante, Barcelona, and Cambridge, but have always remained in contact with the outdoors and my training.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Miguel GisbertWhat inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Miguel: I have always enjoyed helping people and sharing my passion + knowledge with others. I started working as a mountain guide when I got my International Mountain Leader qualifications to teach both climbing and mountaineering courses. After that, I decided to go to university to study Sports Science and I got my NSCA Certified Personal Trainer qualification so I could focus on turning my training into a career.

What are your training specialties?

Miguel: I would say that my strong points are climbing and trail running because they are the specialties that I love and in which I have the most experience. However, I have also spent a lot of time helping people with general/health training and weight loss.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Miguel GisbertWhat’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Miguel: When I discovered the app, I immediately loved the way you can create your own workouts and even your own exercises. This powerful tool allows me to work with infinite possibilities for my own training and my clients, which I found really useful.

Who are your heroes?

Miguel: Kilian Jornet is a great example of a legend I look up to. Following his journey has taught me how to be really dedicated to my training, competition, and how to be connected with the mountains with respect.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Miguel GisbertWhat keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Miguel: For me, training is mostly about my health and ability. I train to be healthy and enjoy a good quality of life. I also strive to reach some personal goals that I set for myself, this really helps motivate me.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Miguel: I have to admit that I love pizza and beer 🙂

Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?

Miguel: I like completing training programs in which you not only train to build your strength but also your balance, proprioception, and technique. I like to focus not only on the main muscle groups but also the supporting, synergists, and stabilizers. So I am a huge lover of all ‘unbalancing’ gear like Bosu, FitBALL, and TRX.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Miguel GisbertPlease share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Miguel: As a tip, I would recommend two things! Number 1: Go out and start training. Don’t think about the distance you are going to run or how hard you are going to train. Just get up off that sofa and start, because that’s the most difficult part, the rest will come. Number 2: Your diet starts at the supermarket. Don’t buy what you shouldn’t eat because if it’s not in your home, it won’t be in your belly. It’s that simple! Remember to always treat yourself to a piece of fruit (or other healthy snack) instead of that cookie you wanted to buy, to kill your hunger moments with healthy alternatives.

Thanks for sharing with us, Miguel, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Loredana Kulczycki

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Loredana KulczyckiMeet Loredana Kulczycki, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! She is an avid rock climber and Personal Trainer in California. We recently had the chance to chat with Loredana and learn about how she enjoys her own active lifestyle and likes to help others find their passion for movement.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Loredana: Hi there, my name is Loredana and I’m a Personal Trainer in Los Angeles. I’ve always loved moving, from gymnastics as a child to rock climbing as an adult.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Loredana KulczyckiWhat inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Loredana: I can feel how important proper form is when exercising myself, so I wanted to help others feel their efforts in the right places and reach their goals more effectively.

What are your training specialties?

Loredana: I got my NASM Personal Training certification 5 years ago and have been coaching ever since. I continued with the NASM Corrective Exercise course, got certified to teach Yoga at YogaWorks and completed a NASM Nutrition certification as the most recent addition to my ongoing training.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Loredana KulczyckiWhat’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?

Loredana: I like the easy flow when creating a workout for myself or my clients. You can create many different styles of workouts, from repetition-based to time-based sets, or both. It’s a great app!

How do you use the app as a part of your coaching business?

Loredana: So far, I’ve been inviting my current clients to try the app to familiarize themselves with it and see if they like it. I’m planning on using the Workout Trainer app when my clients are traveling and still want to be able to access workouts that are tailored to their needs.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Loredana KulczyckiIn your experience, what are some of the benefits of online training?

Loredana: In my opinion, in-person training is definitely more fun and enjoyable. I also like having the opportunity to correct my clients’ form in real time. However, online training is a great supplement, because the training programs don’t have to stop when you’re traveling and your clients can enjoy more flexibility while they are on-the-go.

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Loredana: I like to maintain a healthy lifestyle myself and as a result, I also like to help and inspire others on their health journey.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Loredana KulczyckiFinally, can you share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Loredana: Be active daily! Don’t just commit to a 30-day challenge and expect it to have lasting results. Find things to keep yourself active in some shape or form on a daily basis. If you enjoy what you’re doing, you’ll stick with your new routine for longer.

Thanks for sharing with us, Loredana, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!

Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Leia Nicole

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Leia NicoleMeet Leia Nicole, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! After several years of helping people manage muscular pain as a massage therapist, Leia decided to take a more proactive approach to help her clients build strength and protect themselves from injury in the first place. We recently had the chance to chat with Leia and learn about how she discovered her own passion for fitness and decided to help others work towards a more active, sustainable lifestyle.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Leia: I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin. I have been an athlete all my life, participating in gymnastics, basketball, and volleyball all the way through high school. I didn’t start working out in a gym until I was 25 years old, and that is when I fell in love with fitness. At age 30, I made the decision to follow my dreams and move to the beach, escaping the long, harsh winters of Wisconsin. For the last five years, I have been living my best life near Galveston Island, Texas!

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Leia: I have been a massage therapist since 2007, and after a year or two of trying to help people manage muscular pain, I realized that if they could learn how to be more physically active, they could avoid a lot of this chronic pain they were dealing with. That is when I decided to pair massage therapy with physical fitness. I wanted to help people live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Leia NicoleWhat are your training specialties?

Leia: I specialize in women’s fitness. I work with a lot of busy moms who are trying to juggle their career, their kids, their friends, etc. and still make time for themselves. There is a lot of pressure on women in today’s society to have it “all together” and I really have a passion for teaching women how to love themselves, and love the journey. This means a lot of home workouts, pre/post pregnancy fitness, functional fitness, and building shapely curves with resistance training. (Being #StrongNotSkinny)

Why did you choose to certify with ACE?

Leia: ACE has a fantastic reputation and they have SO much to offer in terms of continuing education. I had a personal trainer at one point who recommended ACE and she was an amazing trainer… so of course, I wanted to get certified with whoever she was certified with! I feel ACE has really high standards of education, and I am always able to advance my training and knowledge with them.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Leia NicoleHow did you first hear about Workout Trainer?

Leia: It was in one of my ACE professional magazines!

What’s your favorite feature in the app?

Leia: I LOVE that each exercise has a video demonstration. This is so key for my clients, to be able to watch proper form demonstrated.

How do you use Workout Trainer as a part of your coaching business?

Leia: I enjoy creating short, free workouts to give people an idea of my training style and introduce them to the type of workouts I like to bring to my clients. From there, I am able to connect with people interested in taking the next step and allowing me to design a workout that is totally customized for their body type, fitness level, lifestyle, and goals.

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Leia NicoleIn your experience, what are some of the benefits of online training?

Leia: In-person training is usually just once or twice a week. With online training, I can create workouts for the entire week, giving them a solid plan to follow every single day. It also allows people to get their workout in on their own time, which is very convenient… it is also cheaper! I believe it is the answer to every excuse someone can have for not working out.

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Leia: I don’t believe that we have to “grow old”. I don’t want to live my last years in a wheelchair. I want to still be able to hike mountains and swim in oceans when I am 90! I want to be energetic, look and feel young 50 years from now, prevent disease and chronic pain as best I can. I truly believe our body is our temple, and we should take great care of it!

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Leia NicoleFinally, can you share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Leia: The key to lasting change and results is consistency. Even if it’s one or two small things a day, as long as you are consistent you will continue making progress. Focus on small changes daily rather than trying to make big moves just once in a while. The little things add up, and it’s what you do day in and day out that matters, not what you do now and then.

Thanks for sharing with us, Leia, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!
