Meet Lisa McNett, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! Passionate about movement and helping others achieve their goals, she discovered a unique opportunity to shift her focus as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. We recently had the chance to chat with Lisa and learn about her mission to help her local Autism Non-Profit with tailored classes for kids.
Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.
Lisa: I grew up as a dancer in Clearwater, Florida. I was always surrounded by movement and loved every bit of it. I continued dancing up until my last semester in college at Michigan Technological University. I had always had a passion for dance and fitness but truly was catapulted into the fitness/wellness side of things when I started teaching Zumba Fitness in Gillette, Wyoming in 2007. This is where I started my journey!
What inspired you to become a personal trainer?
Lisa: My passion to help others achieve their goals is what truly inspired me. I love seeing people smile through a workout when I teach group fitness, especially when they come to me and say how much stronger or confident they feel as a result. That’s why I do what I do and why I continued to pursue other formats too.
What are your training specialties?
Lisa: I am an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor with specialties in Zumba Fitness, Tabata Bootcamp/HIIT, BOSU, Barre, and soon Functional Training! I also started my own initiative back in 2012, called Kids Movement.
Can you tell us a bit more about Kids Movement?
Lisa: I have a 9-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum. When I took my first BOSU workshop, I immediately wanted to incorporate it into a class for kids on the spectrum. This is how Kids Movement developed, it is a class designed to hit all the senses and work on those motor skills with kids. I wanted it to be a safe space for these kids to come to have fun and work out. Though the class is not currently active, I work daily with my own son and I do a fundraising event every year for our local Autism Non-Profit (The Autism Council of Utah) which I am currently prepping for!
What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?
Lisa: My kids – I have very active boys and I want to be running around with them when I am 60+ years old. I feel so much better when I work out and move. My mental and physical health motivates me to keep moving even if it’s just a small walk. Every movement matters and I want to stay healthy for myself and my family.
Who are your heroes?
Lisa: My oldest sister is one of my biggest heroes. She has been my biggest cheerleader and also a mom of six (wow, right)! She works hard and stays focused.
What’s your favorite Workout Trainer feature?
Lisa: I love that you can choose exercises or workouts based on certain muscle groups you are wanting to work on, or specialty areas like climbing, for example. That is really awesome! I started rock climbing two and a half years ago; so I’m definitely checking those ones out.
Do you have any go-to training gear that you would recommend?
Lisa: I really love my Lululemon Pace Rival Capris. They have held up during so many visits to the climbing gym, regular workouts, hikes, and my daily busy life. They are so comfortable and don’t give me that “naked” feel at all when I wear them. Durable, wicking, and comfy!
Please share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…
Lisa: I am not sure if it’s a secret but never leave home without a water bottle filled with water. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day and also keep a healthy non-perishable snack with you in the event you need it!
Thanks for sharing with us, Lisa, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your training biz!
