Skimble’s Trainer Spotlight: Sarah Fisher

Workout Trainer by Skimble: Trainer Spotlight: Sarah Fisher

Meet Sarah Fisher, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! This mom of three is a force to be reckoned with. We recently had the chance to chat with Sarah and learn more about how she discovered the CrossFit methodology to challenge her clients both physically and mentally.

Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.

Sarah: I’m a 35-year-old Personal Trainer and CrossFit Trainer from Birmingham, United Kingdom. I used to be a seamstress and made a big career change to the fitness industry about four years ago.

What inspired you to become a personal trainer?

Sarah: I started exercising after having children and discovered that I had a real passion for it. My body changed and I started to achieve things I never thought I could. One day I was helping someone in the gym, trying to do a push-up for the first time. It ended with them completing their first ever proper push-up and the look on their face was priceless. It was then that I knew I wanted to become a trainer and help others on their fitness journey to achieve their goals.

What are your training specialties?

Sarah: I love training my clients using the CrossFit methodology. I believe that this method of high-intensity training yields the best results. Not only do my clients get fit and healthy, but they also get strong both physically and mentally. I specialize in Olympic Lifting and running too, which go hand-in-hand with CrossFit training and keep things varied for everyone involved.

How did you get involved in CrossFit?

Sarah: I started my training journey as a distance runner, completing many half marathons and several full marathons. I wanted to add some resistance training to my programming to combat the usual running injuries but became bored with regular gym stuff. After some online research, I discovered CrossFit. It was exactly what I’d been looking for! The variety of monostructural exercises, gymnastics and weightlifting movements combined made my training plan so varied that I never got bored. I started training with a CrossFit trainer at my local gym and soon after that entered my first competition. That was four years ago and I’ve never looked back.

How did you first hear about Workout Trainer?

Sarah: I came across Workout Trainer about five years ago when I was training for a marathon and was looking for some cross training sessions that I could do outside of running.

What’s your favorite feature in the app?

Sarah: I love the workout creation feature. The exercise database is so comprehensive and gives me new ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of previously. It also gives me the opportunity to share the workouts I’ve been doing with members of the community, which I really love.

How do you use Workout Trainer as a part of your coaching business?

Sarah: Since joining as an online trainer, I have added existing clients to my account. I now send them daily workouts and check that they have been completed. It’s great for my clients as it gives them a little extra push to get up and move outside of our in-person sessions.

In your experience, what are some of the benefits of online training?

Sarah: Online Personal Training is great for people who don’t have the time to get to the gym. As a mother of three myself, I know how difficult I found it when my children were very young. Having an online trainer takes the headache out of searching the internet for a home program and ensures that the program provided is specific to the client’s needs.

What keeps you motivated to stay fit yourself?

Sarah: I think the human body is an amazing machine! I enjoy testing and pushing it to new levels. There’s nothing better for me than seeing strength numbers go up and mile times come down. I believe that training is beneficial not only on a physical level, but it’s also great for mental health. I still want to be able to run around when I have grandchildren, so keeping fit and healthy is also very important to me for this reason.

Finally, can you share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…

Sarah: Never neglect your mobility work! It may seem boring to be stretching and foam rolling after your sweaty gym session, but in the long run, the benefits are fantastic. Keep injuries away with just ten minutes of foam rolling and stretching every day 🙂

Thanks for sharing with us, Sarah, we’re excited to see what the future will bring for you and your CrossFit career!
