What keeps you healthy & sane over the holidays? Are health startups the next big opportunity?

As we make your way into the holiday season, check out these videos to keep you thinking about your health over the holidays:

The first one tackles health from the business side posing the question: are health startups the next big opportunity?  It provides you with a glimpse into some of the people and startups who’ve chosen to focus their work to make people’s lives healthier.  This episode of TechCrunch TV features the ladies of Rock Health, Halle Tecco and Leslie Ziegler.  Thanks for the Skimble shout out!

Next up, the holidays are supposed to be joyous, but they’re mostly a stressful time full of rich meals, grueling travel and over-commitment. It’s easy to neglect our personal health, or let an exercise regime lapse, when we’re busy and its cold and dark outside.  But thanks to cool new technology, it doesn’t have to be this way.  VentureBeat features Rock Health portfolio companies including Skimble:

If you fast forward to the 1:50 min mark in the video, you’ll see that whether you’re going for a run, practicing yoga, rock climbing or doing a workout challenge in Workout Trainer, ’tis the season to stay nimble, Skimblers.

2011 mHealth Summit Photo Recap by Skimble

Once there was eHealth, then there was dHealth, now there is mHealth…and it looks like it’s here to stay.  This week, Skimble was on site at the 2011 mHealth Summit (#mHS11) at the Gaylord in DC.  This year, the summit attracted over 3600 attendees from 46 states and 50 countries.  Here’s our photo recap:

The conference kicked off with some incredible Keynotes and Themed Tracks:

The exhibit hall was packed with innovation including the Start Up Pavilion where Skimble was representing along with Rock Health, CellScope and other great startups.

The first evening was spent at a dueling piano bar!  There we celebrated the QualcommLife 2net device platform launch with Rock Health:

Cheers to mHealth!

The second night was spent with Health in Place’s Disruptive Women in Health Care:

Halle Tecco of Rock Health speaks:

We wrapped things up in style with a little nightcap in downtown DC:

Of course we had to stop by the White House for some eggnog with the Obama’s ;p

Feeling all warm inside, we checked out the National Christmas Tree:

What a trip!  Thanks everyone for making the mHealth Summit so memorable and invigorating, The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, HIMSS, The mHealth Alliance (mHA) & The National Institutes of Health (NIH).

For those who aren’t too familiar with the event, the mHealth Summit brings together leaders in government, the private sector, industry, academia, providers and not-for-profit organizations from across the mHealth ecosystem to advance collaboration in the use of wireless technology to improve health outcomes in the United States and abroad.

PS: don’t forget to work off those dark chocolate truffles we provided with Skimble’s top free app, Workout Trainer iPhone/iPad and Android!

Afterward, everyone rocked the organic/vegan dinner created by chief Velvet Valentine – yum!

Thanks everyone for being a good sport about learning our favorite sport 😉

Photo & Video Recap of Skimble’s Happy Hour at Rock Health + EatLifeWhole & Lombardi Sports treats!

Yesterday, we had our first Skimble Happy Hour at our Rock Health office.  What better way to start the weekend than with a bunch of hyper-healthy friends?  First in our recap, don’t you just love it when things start off with a girl-powered pyramid?  We do!

Then the fitness games really took shape.  Being a health & fitness startup, we figured we’d put some of our friends to the test with a mini-series of workout challenges.  Everyone who participated entered into our raffle to win some sweet gift certificates from Lombardi Sports and GSeriesFit product.  Raffle winners incl. Wayne, Steph & Jeremy — congrats!

Here’s us doing the 2 Min Elbow Plank Challenge with a twist by chugging some beer…after all, it’s our happy hour!

Our final fitness test of the night? The Extreme Plank Pyramid Challenge rigorously timed by one of our Global Trainers, Tif from Tif-fiT!  This one was a pure power-endurance effort and not for the faint at heart.  We certainly recommend you try it, perhaps after you watch the video of us doing to figure out who actually completed it — who’s in?

Of course, everyone needed to refuel after that with some deliciously healthy soup & salad provided by the lovely ladies from EatLifeWhole.

Finally, why do we do all this?  We love to have fun, laugh and inspire others to live well.  Just take a look at some of the fit community members we’ve helped today:

Thanks for all your incredible support, skimblers!
