Skimble Member Spotlight: Fabian Soro

This week we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Soro, our Skimble Member Spotlight! Fabian, with his self-proclaimed “old-man problems,” has been an active Skimbler for almost two years, combining yoga and our workouts to keep him in tip-top shape. He’s also created nearly 30 workouts himself, contributing his own fitness know-how to our amazing community. Learn more about Skimbler Fabian here:

fabian1

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

My core and back needed a real boost (overall old-man-problems), after my first whole year without playing regular soccer since 1983. From February/March, I Skimbled regularly as part of my daily routine and I feel fitter than ever, walk up straight (again), and feel much stronger and a whole lot more relaxed, due to yoga.

What do you hope to accomplish, fitness-wise, before the end of the year?

Well, goals: I try some new things along the way and almost a week ago I set my mind to get The Wheel, the Tripod headstand and/or the Shirshasana before the new year. It starts with headstand prep-workouts and further strengthening, especially the core and deltoids, so whatever happens, I win.

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

The only one that comes to mind in regards to ‘fitness’ combined with ‘icon’ is Bruce Lee, but i don’t know if he’s a fitness-icon. This dry-muscled man used to slap people silly (or worse) if my memory serves me right.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

The Skimble work-outs in all kinds and colours. I can make my own work-outs or try/use those of others and Skimblers can motivate you sometimes. And sometimes, I have to admit it, it’s addictive.

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

If you want it, you can achieve it, and this is no Hallmark-card but actually true.

FABIAN

Thanks for taking the time to chat with us, Fabian!  We know you’ll be Wheeling around in no time 🙂

Skimble Member Spotlight: Natasha Flores

This week we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Flores, our Skimble Member Spotlight! Natasha has only been with Skimble and Workout Trainer for the last seven months but she’s seen mega progress in her training and fitness level.  Check out her story here:

natasha_foster_william_2

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

Last year I started to exercise and get fit but wasn’t consistent; rainy days put me off going out to run and life got busy. I have exercised almost every day since January, I now have a very active lifestyle. I have seen a big difference in my body, my strength, fitness and I have so much more energy.

What your next fitness goal?

I am focusing on trying to reduce body fat, sculpt my body and improve my CV (cardiovascular) through regular workouts and a sensible diet.  I’m not doing this to get ready for summer, but to be ready for the rest of my life.

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

I don’t have an icon but I am definitely influenced by many Skimble members.  Their dedication to their workouts has helped my motivation.  Melissa ‘thrutheblue’ Weldon has also really helped me develop the confidence to lift heavy weights and sculpt my body.

Describe your favorite way of staying fit outdoors.

I enjoying walking/hiking in the country and running at the nearby lake.  I can’t wait for the summer to really start enjoying the great outdoors and fun with my family!

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

I really like the great variety of workouts which as a beginner gave me the direction and focus I needed to work out at home and challenge myself. I can also create my own workouts and share these with others, which is great too.  There are so many like minded people of different ages and experience all over the world who are each others cheerleaders, plus I love the fact I can skimble anywhere!

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

Do something and start today, not tomorrow.

natasha_foster_william_1

julie_webb_kelley_2

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

I didn’t have much weight to lose but I’ve gained A LOT in strength and confidence….am up to a 4 minute full-arm plank!! And at 50 years old, that’s pretty good!

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

My fitness icon is my 15-year-old daughter. She swims competitively and her strength and motivation inspire me year-round!

Describe your favorite way of staying fit outdoors.

My favorite way of staying fit outdoors is riding my bike. We have a lot of hills around! As long as a workout is kicking my butt, I’m happy. BUT my absolute fav way of staying fit is kickboxing!!! Love, love, love every kick, every punch, every day!!

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

My favorite thing about Skimble is the community. I’ve truly come to count on the support of my fellow Skimblers and really enjoy the workouts they create. My Skimble friends challenge me in so many ways and because of them, I can do more than I ever thought possible at my age!

What’s a random fact about you that you’d like to share with our community?

I am a cancer survivor….16 months and counting!!

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

“IT doesn’t get easier. YOU get stronger!” and “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

julie_webb_kelley_1

Check out the guns on this mama! Thanks, Julie, for sharing your story with us.  We are so humbly proud to have helped you stay fit.

Skimble Member Spotlight: Sylvester Daniels III

Everyone meet Sylvester Daniels III, or as our Skimble community knows him Sd3, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Sylvester has been active his entire life, but found Skimble six months ago and has used it to stay motivated on his path for fitness domination. He was kind enough to answer our questions on exercise and life:

sd3_1

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

I started off my fitness journey at age six and have been active ever since. After collegiate football I got up to my heaviest, approximately 240 pounds. Now I am 194 pounds and looking to lose about 10 more pounds.

What your next fitness goal?

This summer I am looking forward to completing the Spartan Beast in June.  This race is 13 excruciating miles of tough obstacles and trail running.

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

LL Cool J.  That man is in excellent shape.

What’s a random fact about you?

I was once the fastest male high school 200 meter sprinter in Utah.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

My favorite thing about Skimble, is that you can always find support and motivation on those days you don’t feel like getting off the couch. It has motivated me to get back into shape and make fitness a major component of my life again.  I want to be an inspiration for my children, family, and friends and ensure that I will be as healthy as possible so I can enjoy my time on this great planet.

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

“Train like your stronger, fitter, evil twin is plotting to KILL YOU!”  This is my fitness motto, because in the end I am competing against myself and only I can push myself past my limits.

sd3_2

Wow, we love to see how versatile our community is, and Sylvester is an excellent example of someone that is using Workout Trainer to maintain an already active and healthy lifestyle.  We know you’ll crush that Spartan Beast this summer! Thanks Sylvester!

Skimble Member Spotlight: Michael Miosi

This week we’d like to introduce you to Michael Miosi, our Skimble Member Spotlight! Michael and his family have been with Skimble since 2011 and he tried several other workout options before finding success with Workout Trainer.  As a Camp Director at a youth camp he was tired of “huffing it across camp” and decided to take the necessary steps to improve his health and well-being.  Check out his story here:

michaelmiosi_skimble_workouttrainer_2

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

About 2 years ago, I stepped on the scale in doctor’s office at 200 lbs, which was the most I’ve ever weighed in my life! I now weigh a little under 165, and I feel great!

What your next fitness goal?

I recently completed a 60 mile trail in 3 days with a friend. I want to complete the same trail with my 13 year old son (in 5 days or less). I also want to break 19 minutes in a 5K.

Who’s your fitness icon and why?

Most of my “fitness icons” are ordinary people, like many folks in the Skimble community. One of my mentors particularly inspires me because he is 69 years old, ripped and could probably out-bench many of the younger guys at the gym any day!

Describe your favorite way of staying fit outdoors.

I love trail running, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking. I also love “backyard” sports with my kids!

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

I love that Skimble has something for everybody (In fact, my wife, son and one daughter all use it!). I have greatly enjoyed creating workouts as well as the accountability and inspiration offered through followers and forums!

What’s your fitness mantra/motto?

“Fit to serve.”

michaelmiosi_skimble_workouttrainer

Skimble Member Spotlight: Rod Epperly

This week we’d like to introduce you to Rod Epperly, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Rod has been with us for almost two years and uses both Skimble’s Workout Trainer & GPS Sports Tracker apps!  Rod is part of a super active and supportive Skimble squad that we took notice of a few months ago, and we got a chance to ask him some questions this past week:

Rod-new

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

I started in January of 2011 with a weight of 260 lbs. Gout creeping in, borderline BP, and serious joint problems got to the point where I had to take off work! Today I weigh 186 with a normal BP and no inflamed joints! I workout 4-6 days with cardio, weights, and hiking.

What your next fitness goal?

The next goal I would like to meet would be to slim down to 170 lbs and add muscle from there, and finishing the crossfit circuit would be fantastic. Will try out for a semi-pro team next season just to do it one last time.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

The greatest thing about Skimble that I like is the people! The support given by others is impeccable, its so amazing. Making your own personal workout with a trainer would be a close second.

Whats a random fact about you?

I grew up with and am still friends with a former NBA MVP (A.I.)(early 2000’s)… Not saying who though! 🙂

Who is your fitness icon and why?

Arnold Schwartzennegar is my earliest idol no doubt, he has achieved so much in the USA since coming from Austria, love the Oak. Sounds kind of cliche’ but I also looked up to and admired my father as a sport idol. He was better than me in every sport except football, that is untill I got over 200 lbs! M Pudzinowski of Poland is another icon I admire.

Rodepperly

I’ve got to shout out to those who re-taught me how to enjoy working out. Skimble Member Spotlight: MykaL Leal

Meet Mykal Leal, our Skimble Member Spotlight! MykaL has been using Workout Trainer for almost a year and we don’t have to tell you about his amazing transformation– we can show you!  Not only has he had personal victory, but this native Alaskan has been motivating the community around him to join in his fitness journey. He’s already created several workouts, such as Power of 10, that are super intense and will keep you sore for days!  Check out how MykaL’s past year has been, and what he has to look forward to in the future.

Mykal

What was your motivation to start working out?

My motivation was my family, especially my only child, my son Joaquin. I want to be around and healthy for as long as possible so that I can continue to have fun and play with him each and every day. I never wanted my being fat to ever get in the way of that.

What your fitness goal for 2013?

My fitness goal for 2013 is to drop to at least 15% body fat and to weigh 175-185. I am currently 25% body fat and at 210lbs.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

My favorite thing about Skimble is how easy it is to follow all the workouts! Plus I love being able to create my own training sessions and keeping in touch with others on the site with similar stories as my own.

What’s your workout mantra (or your favorite inspirational quote)?

 “DO WORK!!!”

Who is your fitness icon?

My fitness icon is my dad, Leon. He’s in his 50’s but looks like he’s in his 30’s and in great shape because he hits the gym several times a week. My famous fitness icon has got to be The Rock!

Check out these amazing before and after photos of Mykal!

Anything you want to tell our Skimblers?

I hope I can reach many of you out there with my story. I lost 60lbs in 5 months and I’m still going strong. I have degenerative arthritis on both ankles, one surgery on my right knee, asthma, I am a full-time parent, and a full-time school district security guard. If I can “DO WORK!” and get in shape with Skimble, then anyone can!

Also I really would like to thank my wife Carmina for all her support through my weight loss process.

Skimble Member Spotlight: Gilbert Rod

This week we’d like to introduce you to Gilbert Rod, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Gilbert has been using Workout Trainer for just six months and has already seen great progress and results!  We were lucky enough to snag some time with him to ask him about his Skimble experience:

Rodney1

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

When I was younger I was told that I was too thin and I needed to fatten up. I took this to heart and ate as much food as I could without realizing what I was doing to myself. Four months ago, looking in the mirror, and shortness of breath doing simple tasks, woke me up! I needed to change. No more junk food, I increased intake of fruit and vegetables, I drink water everyday, and of course exercise with the help from Skimble. I now have the motivation and desire to be healthy and live healthily.

Before joining Skimble I was 223.5 lbs, no energy, and unhappy with my appearance. After joining Skimble I’ve lost over 10 lbs in body fat and 2 inches of my waist. I’m growing stronger, and energy and endurance has also increased. I’ve seen a change in my appearance which makes me extremely happy.

What your next fitness goal?

I desire to be healthy and strong and be an encouragement to friends and family. Next year I would like to help support Relay for Life during its walkathon in my local area. I have a co-worker whose grandmother passed away last year due to cancer and I wanted to walk in the relay but was unfit to do so.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

The support from other Skimblers who are on their journey to living healthy, we encourage each other to press on and reach our goals. I also enjoy the variety of workouts that are created by Skimblers.

Whats a random fact about you!

I’ve been told I have a radio announcer’s voice.

Who is your fitness icon?

Everyone who has triumphed over poor health conditions and beat the odds when they were told they would never survive.

Rodney2

Thanks so much for chatting with us, Gilbert!  Relay for Life is an excellent cause, and we know you’ll be ready to go in 2013!

Skimble Member Spotlight: Rich Xiong

This week we’d like to introduce you to Rich Xiong, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Rich has been with us since May and uses Skimble’s Workout Trainer to supplement his already active lifestyle.  We noticed Rich because he wrote an awesome blogpost about us, and we wanted to hear more about his Skimble experience:

Rx1

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

After my old back injury bounced back a couple of years ago, I maxed out at 74 kg (for 1.68 m of height), and since then I’ve been constantly finding ways to get lighter and lower body fat while recovering. Mostly it’s been futile at best, but recently I’ve been getting on track, weighing 60 kg as of now (down from 68 kg just 2 months ago) and I’ve been feeling more hopeful and energetic after using Skimble.

What’s your fitness/health resolution for 2013?

My new year’s fitness resolution would be to keep the current weight (allowing +/- 2 kg), and to work out more regularly towards building lean muscles, and of course also cultivate very disciplined dietary habits.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

Skimble makes it possible to easily learn and execute a huge variety of workouts at home at our own comfort. The best part is that the app is FREE and even the Pro access is a way more viable option than a gym membership + personal trainer.

Who is your fitness icon?

Mainly because I love dancing a lot, my fitness idol is South Korean popstar Jay Park. Also because he is about the same height as me and has the type of physique to which I am working towards – lean, muscular and proportionate.

Fun/random fact about you!

As much as I am obsessed with fitness and body image, I can eat 3x my normal portion of meal when I feel like it. I am doing my best to not feel like “it” ever again.

First_freeze

We really appreciate both your sweet review of us and for taking the time out to answer some of our questions.  Best of luck with your New Years resolutions, and we hope you stay active in 2013!

Skimble Member Spotlight: Gail Fonseca

This week we’d like to introduce you to Gail Fonseca, this week’s Skimble Member Spotlight! Gail has been with us since March and uses both Skimble’s Workout Trainer & GPS Sports Tracker apps!  We noticed Gail because she is super active in our Skimble community, and we got a chance to ask Gail some questions this past week:

Gail_1

What was your starting point versus your current fitness status?

I decided to start getting fit in 2010 when I bought the Wii Fit which then pushed me to get the Wii Activ which was more challenging. I discovered I thoroughly enjoyed it and noticed how my body was changing.  My main aim was to tone up after having 2 kids and being 39 I knew I was not as fit as I would like to be. I soon got bored with the Wii Activ & came across P90X which was tough and even more challenging.

I got an iPhone earlier this year and discovered Workout Trainer which I loved immediately and was amazed with how good any workout no matter how long or short made me feel.  I started to tone up even more. My legs & arms felt strong.

What’s your favorite thing about Skimble?

I really love music so doing a workout and listening to my favourite songs make this app just unbeatable. I have become more confident in myself because of how I feel and look and recommend this app to anyone who have not got the time to go to a gym or go for a run etc.  A few friends have taken my advice and enjoy using it too.

I also use the sports tracker to monitor my progress which is great in the way I have met many encouraging people who are as active if not more than me and who have been very encouraging towards what I am doing. This is one of the best things with the app as it has allowed me to meet some lovely, positive people who keep me motivated day in and day out.

Who is your fitness icon?

My fitness icon is Shaun T & Tony Horton.  They have taught me that if I put my mind to it I can do it and that if it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you. Although I must say some of my Skimble pals are icons in their own right and I feel we all motivate each other.

Gail_fonseca
