Meet Danette Lane, Skimble‘s featured Trainer! After moving interstate, Danette made a big career change and discovered her passion for running. We recently had the chance to chat with Danette and learn about how she helps prepare her clients for all lengths of challenges, from 5K’s to full marathons.
Tell us a bit about your background and where you’re from.
Danette: I spent many years in the healthcare arena whilst practicing my own exercise. When I had to move from my native Chicago to Cleveland for my husband’s job, I decided to return to school and become a personal trainer. I have never regretted combining my love of healthcare and fitness to practice exercise. Currently, I live in Florida on the Treasure Coast.
What inspired you to become a personal trainer?
Danette: My passion for running and exercise led me to become a personal trainer. I really enjoy teaching and helping others succeed. A great day for me is to hear that one of my clients has overcome a hurdle or reached a goal.
What are your training specialties?
Danette: As a health coach, I work with clients on weight management. I develop running plans from 5K’s to marathons and for beginners that just want to learn to run. Strength training for proper form and function of the body is also a specialty of mine.
Can you tell us a bit more about how you got into running and how you help others train for their marathons?
Danette: Running was something I always dreamt about but didn’t know where to start. One day, with a little encouragement from my brother in law, I ran a half mile in my neighborhood. When I worked my way up to 3 miles I entered my first 5K and placed in my age group. Three years later I ran my first marathon and have now run 45 of them. How did you first hear about Workout Trainer?
Danette: I received an email through ACSM, introducing me to the app. It didn’t take long after joining to start training my first client.
What’s your favorite feature in the app?
Danette: Creating workouts with exercise videos for my clients so that I can show them good form when strength training. So many people at the gym perform exercises incorrectly and do not even know it. I want my clients to be educated so that they gain strength without injury.
How do you use Workout Trainer as a part of your coaching business?
Danette: I use Workout Trainer to create programs for my clients. The library of exercises is very comprehensive.
In your experience, what are some of the benefits of online training?
Danette: I love to exercise! It improves my mood and keeps me healthy. For me, it’s a hobby, a passion and my line of work.
Finally, can you share a secret health/fitness tip with the Skimble community…
Danette: Everyone always asks me what exercise is best? What should I do? And my answer is always the same… do what you enjoy the most! Be it swimming, rowing, cycling, walking or running; if you do what you like, you will do it more often.
